Getting people matters right is essential for any serious lean-management effort, for ultimately much of the point of a transformation is to help people achieve more—build their capabilities, increase their capacity, intensify their engagement, and develop deeper connections between purpose and meaning. Accordingly, in conversations with business and HR leaders at some of lean management’s most experienced organizations, a consistent theme has been the importance of HR both to the transformation process and to the changes’ long-term sustainability.
